Look for a small check box next to print to file. I have a relatively new Gateway computer with Windows 7 and Adobe Reader 9, and an older but until now very trusty and reliable HP Laserjet 1018 printer (not a 1020 I had previously tried a similar fix offered by HP but it didn't work because it didn't include the step of deleting the existing print job. The files need to be copied into: C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 location. When you rebooted, the subsystem recovered but because the print job was still in the print queue, it crashed again. I have confirmed that the problem is related to using Adobe Reader to print out scanned documents. I had to tell my employer that he had to wait. This has worked for me so i hope it does for you. Funny, I asked the HP tech support person last night if there was a known Adobe/HP problem and he said no....thanks to everyone on this posting. As fast as humanly possible click Print->Cancel all jobs… If you're lucky this will work on the first try, if not, you may need to repeat step 2 and 3 a Be sure to always check that "Print as Image" option before printing a PDF document.
